Cesarean Sections The Birthing Center of Sturgis Hospital performs cesarean sections in one of the brand new operating suites located directly below the Birthing Center. The design of the unit is to allow direct access to the surgical suite, thereby, providing confidentially and privacy to you and your family. The Pediatrician and the Obstetrical nurse will be responsible to care for your newborn baby in the operating room. The infant bed, which is state of the art, will be taken to the operating room to care for your newborn baby. Family centered care is our goal, and we encourage a significant other to be present in the operating room in order to share this special and exciting event with you. Some instances may not allow the significant other to be present during the cesarean section, as this will allow the staff to direct their full attention on the health and welfare of the mother and the new baby. The family will have the opportunity to meet the baby following delivery on the Obstetrical unit.
